Strong equities with higher bond yields – is an unusual combination.
Global equities gained 15.3% over the past 12 months—a return exceeded in roughly 30% of historical periods. Meanwhile, the US 10-year Treasury yield rose from 4.11% to 5.16%, putting pressure on existing bond holdings.
The striking finding is their simultaneous rise: according to our analysis, US equity gains and yield increases at least this large occurred in only around 2% of observations since 1988.
For diversified portfolios, the implication is clear: allocation matters, but so do bond maturity and the underlying sources of equity risk.
At ELIA, our quantamental approach combines fundamental analysis with systematic risk assessment to understand how these exposures interact.
